OUR STORY

I’m Deborah — a southern girl with a passion for interior design, cooking, and event planning. My love for hosting began more than 30 years ago when I planned a couple’s shower in my home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. After moving to Kansas City, I continued pursuing that passion — especially through weddings, which remain my favorite events to plan.

I’m inspired by evolving design trends and by the timeless elements that never fade. My vision for our event spaces has always been to create backdrops with their own character and style, while allowing each client to express their individuality. My motto has always been:
“Life is too short to be like everyone else. Each of us is unique — why not let your event reflect who you are, or who you want to be?”

People often ask about the inspiration behind the venue’s name. While living in Oklahoma, a 40-year-old magnolia tree stood beside my front porch. I spent countless mornings and evenings watching it change with the seasons. The magnolia — strong, graceful, and slow to grow — became a symbol of patience and purpose for me. I’ve always believed that everything unfolds in its own time, and that each of us has a path uniquely our own. I knew one day my business would carry the name Magnolia; it just took time for the dream to bloom. Never give up on your dreams — and always have a grateful heart.

I’m a proud Native American woman from the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. Creativity runs deep in my family — many are talented painters, jewelers, dancers, and beadwork artists — and I’m grateful to carry on that tradition through design.

As a female- and minority-owned business, we take pride in celebrating diversity in every part of what we do. Our commitment to inclusion goes beyond ownership — it’s woven into how we collaborate, design, and welcome each client who walks through our doors. We believe that every story deserves to be seen and celebrated, and that beauty is found in the blending of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. From our vendor partnerships to the events we host, we strive to create spaces that honor individuality, foster belonging, and reflect the diverse communities we serve.
